Indians in Kuwait and Corona Virus

0

From 29 March, the Ministry of Health, Kuwait started mentioning the nationalities of Coronavirus affected people. If we see the record carefully then it is quite shocking that Indians in Kuwait, is the most affected community. If we start counting from 29 March, 2020, then out of 999 Coronavirus cases 668 cases were of Indians.

Indians in Kuwait vs Total affected People

indians in Kuwait table
Daily update of Corona Cases in Kuwait

From the above table, it is pertinent to note that 67% of the cases belong to Indians. On the other hand if we look at the population of expatriates in Kuwait. The population of in Kuwait is estimated as follows:

  • Indians : 825,000
  • Egyptians : 517,973
  • Filipinos : 185,788
  • Bangladeshis : 181,265
  • Syrians : 140,000
  • Sri Lankans : 130,000
  • Pakistanis : 126,000
  • Ethiopians : 74,000
  • Nepalis : 62,000
  • Iranians : 50,000

  • Americans : 13,000 (30,000 including armed forces)
  • Yemen : 11,000
  • Jordanian and Palestinian : 10,000
  • Indonesians: 8,887

Population of Indians in Kuwait

We can see in the above data that Indians in Kuwait are on the top as far as the population of expatriates is concerned. But still, the Indian population is 19.4% of the total population of Kuwait that is Indians are 0.825 M out of 4.25 M. Now the question is why there is a big difference between % of population and % of Corona cases for Indians in Kuwait?

Reason behind more Indian Cases

Indians represent the largest community, many of whom work in business and service fields. A lot of Indians are getting high salaries and living in Kuwait with their families since long. But still there is a large population of Indians who are low salaried. These low salaried workers or laborers, live in small flats. Due to their low salaries, they rent out small flats and live there in the groups. Their groups are not as small as compared to the room size.

Now suppose, if 8 people are living in a room and one person gets infected by the Coronavirus then what will happen? Of course all the eight people will become 8 active corona cases. This is what is happening with Indians workers in Kuwait so far.

I think we should not blame those workers or laborers who are infected by Coronavirus due to their poor living standards. Because they are working day and night just to earn a little money for the survival of their families. Rather we should help them economically and morally. This was my analysis, I may be right or I may be wrong. What do you people think? please comment!

The oil price today remains shaken

0

Why was the oil price shaken today ?

The Oil price today remains shaken because of uncertainty. The two largest exporters of oil are Saudi Arabia and Russia. Both agreed to cut production on Friday in an effort to stop the deterioration of oil prices. Mexico. will play a key role in the implementation of this agreement. Mexico produces about two million barrels per day, to the rest of the producers. The oil price continued to decline after a slight increase due to the agreement.

It is widely believed that the factors that caused the abolition of the oil market are: the continuing Coronavirus pandemic around the world, a significant decline in oil consumption and Concurrent productive competition.

The spread of Coronavirus increased the seriousness of the crisis. Its consequences have not been confined to the largest energy consumer in the world, which is China. It has spread gradually to the rest of the world. Consequently, the price of crude Brent oil fell to below USD 32 on Friday, “which is the least level since 2016”.

According to economic analysts, prices have fallen by at least 66% since the start of this year. The decrease in global oil consumption is about 7 times in April alone. This decline also exceeds the largest quarterly decline in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.

Experts Opinions about oil price

Oil experts expect that oil prices will drop to less than USD 20 in the future. It would do great harm to the economies of all producers, whether OPEC members or from countries outside the organization.

Experts believe that the recent agreement between the producers to reduce production will not result in stopping the deterioration of prices. Because of the large decrease in the volume of global oil consumption due to quarantine measures and
due to the stopping of travel and transportation from more than a month.

Oil Producing Countries Meeting

The 9th OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting was held on the last Friday. They all agreed to downsize oil production by 10 million barrels per day (bpd). This was a measure to combat recent development brought by the coronavirus.

Outcome of Meeting

The oil-producing countries agreed on adjusting their overall crude oil production down by 10.0 bpd. The downward production will start on May 1, 2020, initially for two months that concludes on June 30, 2020.

Oil Price for today was up by 22 cents to USD 19.96 per barrel. On Thursday the day before it was at USD 19.74 pb, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) said on Friday.

In the international market, the price went down after the OPEC+ deal. The deal was to decrease oil output by 10 million barrels per day (bpd) that was hindered. The OPEC+ is led by Saudi Arabia and Russia. The reason for the deal was to solve the issue of increased oil supplies and decreased global demand by 30 percent as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Earlier in the day, Kuwaiti Oil Minister and Acting Minister of Electricity and Water Dr. Khaled Al-Fadhel told the media that Mexico was opposing the OPEC+ current deal. Saudi Arabia called on Mexico to look at the bigger picture. When we talk about the OPEC+ deal, it was beneficial for all countries during this type of challenging time.

Renewal of Driving License in Kuwait

0

Renewal of driving license has been extended for Kuwaiti citizens every 15 years and expats every 3 years.

Al-Kuwait Al-youm newspaper have published a Ministerial decision. Ministry of Interior issued the decision according to bearing no. 270/2020. That is regarding amending some provisions of ministerial resolution no. 81/1976. The object is amending the executive regulations of the Traffic Law. As a result, increasing the validity of driving license for both Kuwaitis citizens and expats.

Thus Article 3 of the resolution stipulates that article 85 of Ministerial Resolution No. 81 / 1976 be replaced to the following text:

Type of Vehicle for renewal of driving license

Private cars drivers having a passenger capacity of up-to 7 passengers

Transport vehicles weighing up-to 2 tons

Validity of driving license

Kuwaitis and citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council : 15 years,

Expats : 3 years

Bedouins is according to the validity of the residence mentioned in the card.

My Views on the News

For expats renewal of driving license has been a big issue. Therefore it seems that one of their big problems is solved. Previously the validity of license for expats was according to the validity of their residence permit. Finally, this decision will bring a little more happiness and peace in the life of expats. As they were not happy with a little validity.

On the other hand, the traffic department will also relax in the coming days. So, consequently, their daily workload will come to a minimum after some time.

In my opinion, it is the best decision in the favor of both, Kuwaitis and as well as expats. What do you say? Please leave your comments.
